The Superintendent is the educational leader for the Archdiocese of Baltimore (www.archbalt.org), overseeing the spiritual and academic formation of Catholic school students. Reporting to the Chancellor of Education, the Superintendent sets forth a strategic vision and plan to grow and strengthen the Archdiocesan school system, while supporting the mission and the vision of the Archbishop.
The Superintendent will design and implement educational strategies to enhance faith formation and academic accomplishment and participate in strategic initiatives including building a new elementary school in downtown Baltimore, introducing contemporary school governance structures, developing a “systems approach” to enhance the performance of the schools, and creating programs designed to prepare new administrators in urban and suburban schools.
Responsibilities include leadership for development and implementation of a comprehensive curriculum which reflects the highest standards for 21st century learners, reduces achievement gaps, and improves academic performance through innovative instruction and technology. The Superintendent provides oversight for Archdiocesan school leaders and works collaboratively with pastors and parish school leaders and boards. The Superintendent serves as an ex officio member of the Archdiocesan School Board.
